If it has leaked to any major level, needs to be checked where the leak has occurred - quite often the condenser in front of the engine's radiator gets either punctured or corrodes and leaks the
redman. Quite a common problem on the astra. The engine coolant thermostat has an electrical heater element embedded in the housing. It has developed a fault and the most likely remedy is a genuine Vauxhall replacement thermostat. It should be ok to drive until replaced as the stat is a fail safe type, should the heater element stop working..
